Plastic Free July: Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future

Posted by on

Over the last few weeks, around 100 million people, businesses and organisations worldwide have participated in Plastic Free July, a global movement dedicated to reducing plastic waste.

As the month comes to a close, it’s a great time to reflect on why this initiative is so vital and share the steps we take as a business every day to contribute to this cause.

The Significance of Plastic Free July

Plastic Free July isn’t just a campaign; it’s a powerful call to action. The statistics are staggering and underscore the urgency of reducing plastic use:

- Over 380 million tons of plastic are produced every year. (Source: Plastic Oceans
- 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans annually. (Source: National Geographic)
- Plastic debris is found in 100% of marine turtles, 59% of whales, and 36% of seals. (Source: World Wildlife Fund)
- Only 9% of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled. (Source: United Nations Environment Programme)

These figures highlight the pervasive issue of plastic pollution, which impacts marine life, ecosystems, and human health. By participating in Plastic Free July, we join a global effort to tackle this pressing problem and promote sustainable living.

Our Commitment at Talking Tables

At Talking Tables, we are passionate about sustainability and are proud to lead by example. We’re delighted to announce that our latest collections are 98% single-use plastic free.

This significant achievement reflects our commitment to reducing plastic waste and our position as industry leaders in producing plastic-free games, napkins, and party supplies.

Our products are made from fully-recyclable and responsibly-sourced, FSC-certified paper and card, ensuring they are both high-quality and environmentally friendly.

Innovative Packaging Solutions

One of our notable innovations is in our napkin packaging. We’ve replaced plastic with card packaging featuring a cut-out window. To keep our napkins pristine, we’ve added an extra napkin at the front to protect the others, ensuring a completely plastic-free solution.

Games the Planet Wants Us to Play

Our commitment to sustainability extends to our games as well. We’ve implemented several plastic-free innovations in our latest collections:

- Removed plastic content trays.
- Introduced plastic-free box tamper seals.
- Applied non-plastic varnish to our smaller games.

These changes ensure that our products are not only enjoyable but also kind to the planet.

Our Ongoing Journey

We recognise that there is still so much work to be done, but don't worry - our journey doesn’t stop here. We are just getting started!

We were the first company to produce a fully home-recyclable cup, and we're not resting on our laurels now. Expect to see more product and material innovations from us in the near future. We are continuously working with our designers and suppliers to push boundaries - and we demand excellence in every area.

We are in the business of making great products—great for your customers and great for the planet.
