Festival of lights
The Talking Tables team gathered together to celebrate Diwali, the important religious festival marking the start of the Hindu New Year.
People often think of Diwali as a Hindu festival but it is also celebrated by Sikhs and Jains. It lasts for five days, with the dates set by the position of the moon. This year it ran from October 22 to 26.
It’s a celebration of good triumphing over evil and light over darkness, and different legends based on this theme are associated with the festival.
Among the traditions are filling your house with lights, cleaning and decorating your home, and gathering with friends and family. People exchange gifts and sweets, have feasts and watch firework displays.
At TT we dressed our HQ with candles and bunting and enjoyed a delicious feast courtesy of Deena, our financial controller, Kelsang, our customer service manager, and Jateen, our senior IT and merchandising manager. The food was amazing and took in Indo-Chinese, Nepalese and Indian influences, emphasising the broad nature of the event. A big shout out to Tamu Tamu and Aloo Tama who we thoroughly recommend as well as Sneha for the hand painting.
