How our suppliers are using renewable energy with solar panels
Did you know our suppliers are forging ahead with installing solar panels? We recently went to investigate.
The use of renewable energy and reducing the impact our factory partners have on the environment is a key focus for Talking Tables.
Alice Sanderson, our supply chain and delivery manager recently visited some of our supply partners in China. We find it really valuable to be on the ground talking directly with factory owners to understand their plans and strategies for sustainability.
The use of solar power has risen dramatically in China. Solar panel installations is growing at a pace that will increase global capacity by 85% by 2025. While in some areas China has much work to do on its carbon impact, it is fast becoming a global renewable energy leader.
Of the factories visited, Alice was encouraged to see that two of our supplier partners have already installed solar panels. A further two factories have plans to install panels in the near future.
One of Talking Tables’ top game manufacturers in China has installed 1,848 solar panels, which now support 20% of the factory’s power. Talking Tables manufacturers games such as the new Sinking City strategy game at this site.
These are encouraging steps forward. Talking Tables is a registered member of the SME Climate Commitment. As part of this commitment Talking Tables have pledged to halve our greenhouse emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. We will need support from our whole supply chain to achieve these targets.
This year Talking Tables will complete its second annual supplier environmental survey. We also plan to hold a supplier conference in China this autumn followed by one in Europe. We will use both platforms to continue to encourage and challenge our suppliers to make further ground in implementing similar solar power initiatives.
